What is reproductive health?
Overview:

Reproductive health is the combination of mental, physical, and social well being this does not just include pregnancy's or lack there of, but rather all matter relating to the reproductive system. Reproductive health and freedom intertwine implying that people of all genders are able to have a safe and healthy sex life, and that if a person is capable of reproducing they are entitled to decide if, when, and how often they will do so.

Why is this so important?

It has been estimated that a further education in school for 1,000 women helps put a stop to two maternal deaths. The importance of reproductive education not only improves the health, and life of the mother, but also increases the likelihood of a child passing the age of 5.

Women's Anatomy

  • Functions of the female reproductive system:

    1. Ovaries produce the egg cells (ova or oocytes)

    2.  The egg cells (ova or oocytes) are transported to the fallopian tube (sperm fertilization might occur here)

    3. Fertilized egg → moves to the uterus, the uterine lining has thickened due to the normal hormones of the reproductive cycle

      • fertilized egg can then implant into the thickened uterine lining and pursue its development

    4. If there is no implantation, the uterine lining sheds as a menstrual flow

    5. The female reproductive system also produces sex hormones that continue the reproductive cycle

  • The female reproductive anatomy includes external and internal structures

    1. There are 2 main purposes of the external reproductive structure

      • To enable sperm to enter the body

      • Protect the internal genital organs from infectious organisms
